freedom of expression

"Give me the liberty to know, to utter, snd to argue freely according to conscience, above all liberties." John Milton, Areopagitica, 1644.

"Were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspaper or newspaper without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter." Thomas Jefferson to Edward Carrington, 1787, ME 6:57

"I dissaprove of what you say, but I will defend to death your right to say it." Evelyn Beatrice Hall (Stephen G. Tallentyre), The Friends of Voltaire, 1906.

"If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear." George Orwell, 'The Freedom of the Press', NY Times Magazine, 8 Oct 1972.

"Censorship reflects a society's lack of confidence in itself." Potter Stewart, US Supreme Court Justice (1915-1985).

apakabar free speech di Indo?
yang ada gosip merajalela.
belum lagi porn (erotic) or cult media dimana-mana.
klo ga buka-bukaan bajunya, setan alias hantu-hantuan dimana mana.
kalo engga gosip selebritis.

mungkin dikit-dikit lama lama jadi bukit.
itu-itu dulu diatas ladang penggunaan free speechnya.
insyaAllah merambat ke hal-hal yang lebih "PENTING" alias in the name of civic society... "public interest"

tapi, emangnya masyarakatnya mau free speech?
do they believe in it?
apakah masih culture kita, indonesian, "to keep it to ourselves".. "ga usah bilang bilang" dan "diem diem aja" atau lebih terkenalnya "nrimo"?

nanti saya kabari sepulangnya saya ke tanah air..
apa ada yg bisa ngasih kabar?
masihkah kita berbudaya "keep it silent"?
